NWNW SYMPOSIUM FAQ
1. What are accommodations like at Moreau?
The rooms at Moreau are simple, single-bed dormitory style rooms with sinks and communal, single-sex bathrooms and showers. Towels, linens, soap are provided, but you will need to bring other toiletries such as shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste, etc., and you may wish to bring a bathrobe and flip-flops for the showers. We would also recommend bringing a sleep mask (as light from the hallway comes into the rooms) and an extension cord (as there is only one outlet in the room). Moreau has ample social space, a large dining room, and a nice chapel. The chapel, dining room, and conference room where presentations occur are air-conditioned, but the rest of Moreau is not (though there are box fans in each of the rooms).
2. What do I wear?
Attire for the conference is casual, however, you may want something slightly nicer for Sunday Mass.
3. How will I eat?
We eat all of our meals together, most of which we will take in the Moreau dining room. We also provide drinks and snacks each evening during social time. In between meals (as well as during meals), you are free to visit the kitchen for drinks and snacks (including ice cream, which might seem hidden to the unlearned!). Saturday evening we typically have a family social with pizza, as members sometimes have their families in tow. Meals, snacks, and drinks are included in the cost of registration.
4. What is the atmosphere of the symposium?
While the academic debates during paper sessions may be more formal, an important aim of the symposium is for fellowship, and this is facilitated particularly during meals and social time in the evenings, where the conversations of that day are extended in a more informal and conversational setting.
5. How will I exercise?
Due to Moreau’s location on St. Mary’s Lake, it is an excellent idea to go for a walk or run around the lakes.
6. Will I have wi-fi?
Yes, the university automatically provides wi-fi to all ND guests. You can connect to it automatically once on campus.
7. What COVID precautions will be in place?
Moreau Seminary is requiring proof of (full) vaccination for all guests of the seminary, including our group. As of right now, Moreau is additionally requiring masking and distancing inside, though the requirements for masking and distancing could change depending on federal and local guidelines.
